What is a Marriott Hotel?

Marriott International is a global mega -hotel chain. Originating in the United States, it opens new hotels in Japan every year. While it focuses on luxury hotels, it also operates a diverse range of brands, including lodging-focused hotels, mid-range hotels, and plans to open more than 10 business hotel brands by 2024. It was founded by Marriott, and its ticker symbol on the NASDAQ is "MAR."

The stylish and impactful design is something you rarely see in Japan, and I think it's a testament to the foreign-owned hotels. The hotels near roadside stations are perfect for overnight drives. Some hotels even allow pets.
Luxury brands are not only gorgeous and high-end, but also tend to focus on wellness and incorporate and highlight the history and culture of the area.

The next hotel scheduled to open is the JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo , which is scheduled to open on October 2, 2025.

Marriott Hotel's membership program "Marriott Bonvoy"

JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo: Opening on October 2, 2025. Directly connected to Takanawa Gateway Station on the JR Yamanote Line.; "JW Marriott" is Marriott's highest luxury brand, and is the second hotel in Japan and the first in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Sheraton

A premium category brand. Sheraton began in 1937 and has since expanded its city and resort hotels around the world. Overseas, the Sheraton Waikiki in Hawaii is well known to Japanese people.

Sheraton Kagoshima Hotel: Opening in 2023. Natural hot spring water directly from the source. Kagoshima's first foreign-owned luxury hotel.

Westin

A premium brand famous for its Heavenly Bed. It also focuses on fitness and workouts, focusing on six pillars of "well-being" including sleep, diet, and exercise.

The Westin Yokohama: Opening in 2022. Located in Yokohama Minato Mirai, all rooms will be equipped with the next-generation Heavenly Bed model.

A unique hotel has joined Marriott. The concept is similar to the luxury Autograph Collection, but this "Series by Marriott" is in the affordable (select) range. It will be exciting to see what hotels will join and what new hotels will open in the future.

Sugata Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi Series by Marriott: Marriott's collection brand, "Series by Marriott," will make its debut in Japan. Located approximately 300 meters from Shinsaibashi Station, it will feature an all-day dining restaurant and bar. It will be rebranded as "Bespoke Hotel Shinsaibashi" and open in April 2026.

City Express by Marriott

Originally a mid-sized hotel chain in Mexico, "Hoteles City Express" is launching its first mid-scale brand in the Asia Pacific region.
